The Mystery Of Communion

20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. John 12 NIV
What these Greek men were looking for wasn't just to see Jesus, but to have an encounter with that light that is in Jesus. Their souls hungered for that which was to come, though they had no perfect knowledge of what it was. But all they knew was that something would happen in their lives should they meet Jesus.
23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. John12 NIV
For those Greeks and all the gentiles to become sons and daughter of God, Jesus had to first die as a Kernel of wheat. Then, He could bring forth offsprings—the believers who will accept Him and His sacrifice as payment for their sins.
10 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. 11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.[a] Hebrews 2 NIV
There is a life that's beyond the normal life we live. That life is the life that is given by God, through the Spirit of His Son Jesus Christ—the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit could not come into the world to abide with all those who hungered for that transformative power of God without Jesus first dying.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. John 16:7 KJV.
8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high,
He led captivity captive,
And gave gifts to men.” 9 (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also [a]first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) Ephesians 4.
His resurrection brought us to life, and gave us freedom from the bondage and captivity that once held us.
The Holy Spirit is so holy that He will not put up with sin. So, the only reason it seems as though the Holy Spirit puts up with us is because of the blood of Jesus Christ. Each time He remembers the blood of Jesus, He relents from letting destruction come on us believers. He, the Holy Spirit, is also the one who keeps us from falling away and keeps our salvation, and He is also the seal upon our lives that we are the children of God.
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.—John 14 NIV.
Jesus is life, and the way to life. The only way we find ourselves back to life is through Him and by feeding on Him.
There is a mystery shown in the scriptures, and that's the mystery of communion and the breaking of bread, which is the body of Christ. It is true that many people have gone into the deep end with some doctrines that are not sound, thereby causing some Christian denominations to take for granted that which was given to us.
In John 6, Jesus tells the people that his body is food and that His blood is drink. Yes, it is also true that when we read the word and meditate on the scriptures, we feed on the word of God, and that’s feeding on Christ. But it is also true that the communion is also His body and blood.
The word of God tells us in the books of John the Apostle, from the gospel of John 1:1 , and in the epistles written by John and Paul the Apostles, that Jesus the Word is also Jesus the flesh. Jesus in the word is also equivalent to Jesus in the flesh. Hence, when we speak the words of God as written in the Bible, we also speak the life of Jesus and Jesus Himself into our lives.
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 1 John 1 NIV
However, this is not where I am driving. I made mention of those for the reader to properly understand what I am about to say next. When we analyze these words of Jesus in the Bible, we will see that the communion isn't just food. Rather, it is to God as though they were the real blood of Jesus Christ and His flesh.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:26-28 KJV.
In the above-mentioned scripture, you will see that Jesus never said, "This is the symbol of my body and symbol of my blood." Rather, He said, "This is my body and my blood.".
We are left to ask ourselves, Why then didn't He give us the real skin from His body and his blood from his veins? The answer is clear... God commands us not to eat blood nor human flesh.
23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh. 24 Thou shalt not eat it; thou shalt pour it upon the earth as water. 25 Thou shalt not eat it; that it may go well with thee and with thy children after thee when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord. Deuteronomy 12:23-25 KJV.
God can't break His own laws. For Jesus to have given them his physical body and blood would have constituted Jesus violating the laws of God, and that would have made Jesus a sinner.
Yet, since in the blood is found the life of a being and the life of Jesus, the life that our spirits need to feed on is in the blood of Jesus, how then did Jesus call the bread His body and the wine His blood?
This is a mystery revealed in the first miracle of Jesus in Canaan.
3. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4. “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5. His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6. Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”They did so, 9. and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside... John 2 NIV
You see the mystery of turning water into wine? When we eat the bread as His body and drink the cup as His blood, it is in the spiritual realm, His body and His blood.
Here, the apostle Paul goes on to tell us about the mystery of the communion...
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 1 Corinthians 11 KJV
Just as men and women go to hospitals in this age to receive blood transfusions, so it is in the spiritual realm when we partake of the blood of Jesus. That life flows into us if we properly acknowledge the cup we drink as the blood of Jesus. The bible tells us that as often as we eat the bread and drink the cup, we proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. By doing so, we constantly partake in His flesh and body.
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. 1 Corinthians 11 KJV.
